Abstract

In order to assess changes in alcohol consumption in Côte d'Ivoire, a survey comparing consumption between 2008 and 2015 was conducted. Thus, a questionnaire was submitted to 13.458 subjects divided into four groups (alcoholics, urbanites, rural, and students), and the results where compared to those obtained in 2008. The results show that globally, the occasional consumption remained stable. Regular consumption has increased in urban and in rural areas. Also, consumption of koutoukou by all subjects increased significantly. In women, alcohol consumption increased significantly in 2015. This is also the case of rural people who consume more koutoukou and beers. This behavior would be related to the growing impoverishment, the selling prices of different alcohols and their availability on the market.
