Dr. Don Martin is a professor in the Counseling Program and currently serves as the School Counseling Program Director at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio. This graduate program has received national recognition as the outstanding program in the country from the Association of Counselor Education and Supervision. He earned an M.S. in school counseling from Radford University, and a Ph.D. in Counseling from University of North Texas.
Dr. Martin is currently licensed as a psychologist and a clinical counselor and approved supervisor in Ohio. He has over 40 years of clinical experience working in various settings including community mental health centers, hospitals, university counseling centers, and private practice. He belongs to the American Counseling Association, American School Counseling Association, the Ohio Counseling Association, and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. He has published more than 75 articles in scholarly journals, 9 books, and has given numerous presentations in the United States and abroad. He is a specialty chief editor for the European Scientific Journal and a member of the board for Generations Psychiatric Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.. His counseling licenses and certifications include the following: Professional Clinical Counselor with supervisor credential (Ohio), School Counselor Licensure (Florida), and Teaching Certificate-K-12. He was the recipient of the YSU Distinguished Scholar Award as well as the Outstanding Counselor Educator Award from the Ohio Counseling Association. He received the Albert Nelson Marquis Award for lifetime achievement from Who’s Who in the World and is listed in Top Doctors in the United States.
Dr. Martin has received external grant funding for over 3.5 million dollars in his career and has funded over 55 graduate assistantships. He presently funds 7 graduate assistantships with the Youngstown City School District in a joint agreement begun in 2015. Dr. Martin is responsible for teaching classes within the School Counseling program and across the curriculum.
