Abstract
The goal of this study is to analyse the effect of views regarding the admission of refugees and foreign job seekers on opinions related to the economic impact of migrants. To achieve this goal, our study uses data provided by the Afrobarometer 2024 survey in Côte d'Ivoire, covering a sample of 1200 citizens. It employs a quantitative approach by presenting a descriptive analysis (frequency), an inferential analysis (chi-square test and cramer test), and ordinal logistic regression. The results of our study highlight mainly a positive opinion of the economic impact of migrants in Côte d’Ivoire and a negative opinion regarding the admission of foreign job seekers and refugees. Furthermore, the respondents' opinions on the economic impact of migrants are strongly linked to their views regarding the admission of foreign job seekers and refugees. However, opinions on the economic impact of migrants are not influenced by sociodemographic variables (gender, age, education level, and employment status). Finally, according to our results, the more respondents are in favour of admitting foreign job seekers and refugees, the more positive their opinion on the economic impact of migrants.
